These Lilies of the Valley was such a treat to paint. Sitting on the forest floor and taking in their shape, they reminded me of tiny octopuses or masses of minuscule "spöket Laban" (cartoon character, "Laban the ghost"). The smell was of course lovely but unfortunately I am allergic to the smell so I developed a bad headache for the rest of the day.
I couldn't decide on the background though. The original idea was to have a dark green background but I found the white so elegant that I wanted to keep it. I will complement with a dark green version as well as one with raw umber that resembled the actual forest floor.
Again - with raw umbra background.
Finally, the green background, just as I imagined it when I planned the print. It is almost as a camouflage pattern, isn't it? Perfect for war among the Lilies-of-the-Valley. Now tell me, which of these three versions is your favorite?
